Are you finding difficulties on ranking your site and contents on search engines?

Or are you hard up on targeting the right keywords that will help you create a content that will appeal to your audience?

Or maybe you need some clear statistics of your performance so you can see where you fell short and pinpoint the areas in your affiliate marketing strategies that you need to improve.

Then you came to the right place! We will try to answer all of these in this Ahrefs Review 2019!

Is Ahrefs good for your tasks?

More and more people are starting to realize the value of making money online – how it offers high passive income; how it makes for a stable source of living – and while they delve into the work of digital marketing, you, who started before them get a slimmer chance of succeeding.

Let’s face the truth – almost every income generating niche sites are becoming oversaturated and it is no longer that easy to rank on Google and make more money online.

But with site analytics tools like Ahrefs, you can win the chance of ranking again on search engines.

14 years that I have been doing affiliate marketing and I still need tools like this to help me monitor my performance. And I don’t see this need ending even in the far future. I rely on analytics tools too to make sure that my sites and contents are working well and if the stats say it’s not, then at least I know where I need to work harder.

It’s almost impossible to overstate the influence of Ahrefs in affiliate marketing. For many SEO professionals and online marketers, this tool is one of the keys to success.

Why? Because it’s not just a single tool. It’s a suite of invaluable services.

And we will find out everything that Ahrefs can do for you in a little while. So stay tuned and get ready for a load of valuable information that’s about to get served to you.

ahrefs tools

Recommendation: I highly recommend using Ahrefs. There are a lot of good features that other tools don’t have and since its launch, it has now become one of the most-used analytics tools by many online marketers. One downside about Ahrefs is the price, at the end I will show you a more affordable one.

Like I mentioned earlier, Ahrefs serves an your all-in-one tool for digital marketing. Apart from giving you a record of your performance, it also shows you the stats of your competition’s websites, help you find backlinks, and allow you to target the right keywords. You can get a measure of how competitive you’re going to need to be to rank and what you can expect to earn if you’re in position #1.

Since it was introduced in 2011, Ahrefs quickly became one of the most in-demand tool of the internet marketing community. It is powerful, flexible, and backed by literal trillions of pieces of data. Although I use another tool for keyword research which is Wealthy Affiliate’s Jaaxy, I can’t deny that I run to Ahrefs too when in comes to tracing my backlinks and all other stats.

So now, let’s go see if Ahrefs can also do the work for you.

To enjoy the features of Ahrefs, you need to sign up on their website. At first glance, the Ahrefs dashboard looks pretty clean. This is the screen you’ll see after you sign up for the trial.

Ahrefs requires a paid trial

I know paid trial is a hassle but the good news is that you get to access all the tools for only $7! My advice is to take advantage of this trial period and make the most of your $1 per day subscription. There’s a free backlink checker but you won’t get to see the whole stat of your website.

Without further ado, here are the tools that you can enjoy on Ahrefs:

Warning: The User Interface can be overwhelming with a lot of stats being presented to you per run of test but once you get the gist of it, you’ll appreciate how included all the things you need in just one tool.

You can get detailed metrics on any site you’re looking at through Ahrefs. It presents an overload of information at once so you’ll be able to choose what metrics you want to see. Yes, all metrics in just one click.

You can look at the backlink profile, organic search, and paid search. You can even take a look at specific URLs of any given website.

Let me use Wealthy Affiliate’s website for this. I used the free Ahrefs backlink checker and these are the data you get:

ahrefs free backlink checker

At the bottom it is noted that you’ll be able to check all the backlinks connected to your domain.

This is helpful if you’re trying to build backlinks to a certain page.

When you are on the paid trial, one feature you might like here is that on the left side of the page, you can get very detailed metrics. Maybe you’re looking for backlinks, or only want the referring domains, or even want to see the internal backlinks.

But here’s what I love. If you click on “Link intersect” on the left side, you’re brought to a screen where you can input competitor articles.

Ahrefs link intersect features

Overall, Site Explorer acts in many ways like another popular analytics tool called SEMRush which we will review next week. But if you’re already familiar with SEMRush, you’ll have a short learning curve.

Here’s a summary of all the things that Site Explorer offers:

  • Organic traffic analytics – This lets you learn about the keywords that competitors are ranking for. You will also see which search terms are bringing home the bacon. From this data, you can plan the keywords you will work on too.
  • Backlink checker – Like I discussed, this tool will show where your competitors get the backlinks that help them rank. You can also use this data to get your own backlinks.
  • Paid traffic analytics – Site Explorer will show you the keywords that your competitors are using as well as the ads they are running and their landing pages.
  • Page analytics – Site Explorer will also show you which pages on a competitor’s website have the most social shares and backlinks.

Of course, you don’t have to use Site Explorer to learn about competitors. You can also use it to get some insight on your own website.

Why would you do that? To find out important info, such as which keywords are bringing in the most organic traffic and which domains are giving you the most love in terms of backlinks.

Then, you can use that knowledge to capitalize on what works.

Content Explorer will give you a graph of the contents that are doing good for a particular keyword or topic. It works like BuzzSumo.

In this tool, you just have to enter the keyword you are targeting and Content Explorer will give you the titles, excerpts, and links from around the web that are popular for that topic.

But how does Content Explorer do this? Where does it get the results?

It looks at the number of social shares and the backlink count.

You’ll see that info in the report about popular content. For each article, Content Explorer shows you the number Facebook Shares, tweets, LinkedIn shares, and Pinterest pins.

When it comes to backlink detail, the tool highlights the number of referring domains on the top-level report. You can drill deeper to see where the backlinks are coming from.

Additionally, You can filter your search results by:

  • Social shares
  • Domain rating
  • Referring domains
  • Traffic
  • Word count
  • Timeframe

Filter the results depending on what you think is useful to you when analyzing the competition.

This tool will also show you the domains in your niche that never linked to you before. This info can be your way to find new backlink opportunities.

Ahrefs Review: Rank Tracker

If you want to know if your work is getting any good result, Ahrefs can help you answer that question with its Rank Tracker tool.

This tool will show you your rank for a particular keyword over time. But it does more than that. You can also compare your performance over time to a competitor’s performance. Another thing it does is it lets you see ranking updates for both desktop and mobile platforms which come from 170 different countries.

ahrefs rank trackerThe Rank Tracker interactive graphs highlight the following analytics:

  • Percentage of clicks from organic traffic that land on your site
  • Average position and traffic
  • Position distribution

Finally, Rank Tracker offers “share of voice” functionality. This will let you see which websites are fighting to rank for the keywords that you’re using.

I mentioned in a recent review how keyword research can be difficult most especially when you don’t have any reliable tool to use. I use Jaaxy since I am with Wealthy Affiliate, but I can’t deny that Ahrefs‘ Keyword Explorer also does a good job.

Ahrefs keyword research toolOnce you type in your keyword, you’re brought to a page with loads of stats.

While Jaaxy gives you a very straightforward result on keyword research the Keyword Tool of Ahrefs gives you a very detailed result which includes:

  • Keyword suggestions – Get plenty of ideas on keywords that you can rank for. Uncover popular search terms that your competitors don’t even know about!
  • Multinational support – Don’t think for a second that Keyword Explorer only offers English search terms. In fact, the tool supports more than 100 languages. In this global market, can you afford an English-only solution?
  • Accurate volume metrics – Keyword Tool leans on clickstream data to give you accurate search volumes.
  • Click metrics – You don’t just get volume metrics with Keyword Tool. You also get click metrics so you can see if people are actually clicking on the results they get. According to Ahrefs, no other tool offers that kind of detail.
  • Advanced metrics – Learn about clicks per search, percent of paid clicks, return rate, and more.
  • Keyword difficulty scores – Find keywords that are easy to rank with little to no competition. Go straight to the top with “low-hanging fruit.”
  • Keyword lists – Aggregate your favorite keywords into a list that you can reference from time to time.

So like I mentioned in my Jaaxy Review, if you are a newbie and want a keyword research tool you’ll easily comprehend and use, then Jaaxy is the right tool for you. But if you want to know advanced details about your keywords, then Ahrefs is the tool you should use.

Site Audit

The Ahrefs Site Audit tool gives your website a checkup.

As with most other on-site tools, it uses a crawler to traverse all over your site. Then, it produces a helpful report with actionable insights.

ahrefs site auditIt’s not a problem if your website is huge, either. It might just take longer to crawl.

However, you can filter out entire sections of your site with crawl settings. That will make crawling quite a bit faster.

Site Audit will inform you about the following issues:

  • Performance – slow pages, large CSS files, and large HTML files
  • Tags – missing or duplicate meta tags, title tags, and header tags
  • Social tags – incomplete Open Graph tags or Twitter cards
  • Content quality – duplicate pages, low word counts
  • Localization – issues related to your use of hreflang

Site Audit also lets you filter the data so you can create a custom report that gives you exactly what you’re looking for.

One final note: Site Audit runs in the cloud. That means you don’t have to install anything, unlike with Screaming Frog.

With Ahrefs, reports come to you even without you asking for it.

The Alerts tool will notify you, via email, of new backlinks, lost backlinks, web mentions, and keyword rank changes.

All you need to do is set up the appropriate alerts. Ahrefs will handle the rest.

SEO Toolbar

As if it weren’t easy enough to visit Ahrefs in the cloud and check vital web stats, the tool also offers a plugin so that you can take Ahrefs with you as you wander around cyberspace.

ahrefs seo toolbarThe plugin exists for both Google Chrome and Firefox.

Now, as you’re visiting a competitor website, you can see key metrics. You’ll gain insights such as:

  • Ahrefs Domain Rating (DR)
  • Ahrefs URL Rating (UR)
  • Ahrefs Rank (AR)
  • Number of backlinks
  • Number of referring domains
  • Estimated search traffic
  • Number of keyword rankings

That makes the tool an outstanding time-saver for busy professionals such as yourself.

If you’d like more detailed reports, they’re just a click away.

Apart from these 7 main tools, Ahrefs has bonus tools that are useful in special cases. They are:

  1. Domain Comparison
  2. Batch Analysis
  3. Link Intersect
  4. Content Gap
  5. Backlink Checker
  6. SERP Checker

…and so much more!

It is packed with tools and features so the investment you put in this tool might just be worth it.

Ahrefs has a lot of features to love but do all these tools work right?

Here are the things I really like about Ahrefs:

Site analysis on Ahrefs takes place within the Site Explorer and the Site Audit tools. The Site Explorer is by far my favorite one of these and is much more powerful than competitor tools.

You can check a site’s traffic, it’s domain authority, its backlink profile, what keywords it’s ranking for, how many keywords it’s ranking for, and more. There is no stone that Ahrefs leaves unturned. It’s a super useful feature for stealing backlinks, targeting keywords, and beating your competition.

The Site Auditor helps you see what’s going on with your own site. It gives you speed recommendations, shows you your organic traffic, what you’re ranking for, and a few other metrics.

Another feature I love about Ahrefs is that you can track SERP results for specific keywords. You can also use this feature to track your own website. Ahrefs can give you an overall measure of how your site is showing up in SERPs, how many organic keywords you’re ranking for, and how much traffic you’re getting.

You can target specific keywords that you want to track (after this article is published, I’m going to track “ahrefs review”). You can use this to see how your articles are ranking over time and how you can make them rank better.

There really is a whole suite of tools included in all Ahrefs subscriptions. It is almost impossible to use all of them. But I like to have the option to use any of these tools in case my strategies ever change. I won’t have to look for other products to fill any gaps. Ahrefs has it all.

Ahrefs has its own unique strengths and weaknesses. Whether the tool is good for you or not depends on your needs.

You’ll know that Ahrefs is for you if you are one of these:

Niche builders and newbie bloggers

Ahrefs has a lot of data if offers to users so if you are in need of a complete solution for all your site building needs, then this tool suite is for you.

Again, with Ahrefs, you can do keyword research, build links, and track your site. That’s not even including the incredible level of detail you get with Ahrefs.

But be careful with your decision too because it can also be bad for beginners. If you’re just getting started and haven’t proven to yourself that websites are a viable source of income, Ahrefs is not the route to go.

That doesn’t make it better for you though.

For a beginner, I recommend that you start with a simple keyword research tool like Jaaxy. It is less expensive and it is simpler than Ahrefs.

If you are already a digital marketer with an established business, then you’ll definitely benefit from using Ahrefs. It helps you crank up the volume on your keyword research and link building.

Ahrefs‘ SERP watcher will help you stay in the game. Its Keyword Explorer is a super powerful tool for locating secondary keywords that you can rank for. The Site Explorer helps you to steal your competitor’s backlinks.

Ahrefs has a ton of value for you if you’re in the established business zone.

Ahrefs will work great for you whether you are in the content niche, SEO niche, and link building niche. This type of high income, high production group is where Ahrefs begins to shine.

You can take full advantage of the libraries of information hidden within Ahrefs. Find all the keywords you could ever use, spend your life building links, and master SEO. Ahrefs is right up your alley.

Ahrefs was made for the Link Builders who lives and breathes SEO. If you don’t have more referring domains than Amazon itself, it’s not good enough.

If you are producing massive amounts of content, you will be welcomed with open arms by Ahrefs. If you are an affiliate marketer who does a lot of written and video content, then you need Ahrefs, if not then I recommend Jaaxy.

For Content Production Machines, there’s no other tool out there that can produce as many keyword ideas as Ahrefs.

I’d say, Ahrefs is best for SEO professionals, Content Producers, Link Builders and yes, affiliate marketers who own a big business and has several websites to maintain.

If you are just setting up your website, this is expensive. Get to know how to use it first so that when your business grows and you can afford a more expensive option, then you won’t have to worry about a learning curve.

Now if you need an equally adept but more affordable tool, then read my Jaaxy Review to find out a better option.
