Clickbank Overview

Summary: Clickbank is a good place to start scouring products to promote on your website if you are an affiliate marketer. Some of the best-selling products you’ll see online are listed on Clickbank and that’s what most affiliates want – a good product to review.

Product Name: Clickbank
Founder: Tim and Eileen Barber
Product Type: Retail/Affiliate Marketing Platform
Price: Free
Rating: 90/100
Best For: All affiliate marketers who are searching for products to promote.

Let's look at how Clickbank works in this review.

Recommendation: I absolutely recommend using Clickbank. There are a lot of good products to promote on Clickbank but be very keen on researching about the products being sold there. You will find low-class products too and as an affiliate marketer, you don’t want to stain your reputation because of the defective products you put on your blogs.

WHAT IS CLICKBANK?

For shoppers, ClickBank is one of the largest online retailers on the web, founded in 1998, and with over 200 million customers worldwide. For affiliate marketers, this means 200 million potential visitors to your website who will possibly buy from your link and get commission from!

ClickBank is an incredibly popular sales platform where entrepreneurs can sell a range of digital and physical products too. Affiliates come here to help promote those products and earn a nice commission from the entrepreneurs selling them.

Unfortunately, the quality of products available to promote is where ClickBank sometimes falls short.

While there are some fantastic products you can promote, the number of “trashy” products listed on ClickBank is becoming higher. These spammy-looking products are giving Clickbank a pretty poor overall value. This is why some long-time affiliate marketers find individual products outside the platform that they can promote. Others flock to other platforms like Amazon which has a pretty good list of nice products too.

That being said, you have to do your research very carefully when searching for quality products to promote.

The Products You’ll Find on Clickbank

Vendors sell a wide range of products on Clickbank and most are digital items. You can find physical products too, though like training CDs.

Most of the items you’ll find are apps, courses, eBooks, software, webinars, games, website templates, and guides among many others. And all these are from a variety of niches and industries like health and fitness (most popular – weightloss) , home and garden, cooking, food, software, etc.

From here, you’ll know that ClickBank is indeed a great marketplace to explore products you can promote as an affiliate.

And like I mentioned a couple of times earlier, a lot of the products are genuinely good but you’ll find low-end, poor quality, or scammy products too. These products are the notorious “Money Making Systems” and “Get Rich Fast Schemes.” And here’s my first tip. You’ll know that it’s a bad product to promote when they come in tacky banner ads, copy-and-paste sales email, aggressive sales videos, templates, etc.

The trick is to be smart and look past them.

Some of the legit products there are SEOPressor Connect, EasyAzon, and Fotor.

HOW DOES CLICKBANK WORK?

Clickbank affiliate platform works like any other platforms out there.

Find products on Clickbank to promote as an affiliate by searching for them in the ClickBank marketplace.

You can just log in to your account, go to the dashboard and navigate through the Marketplace in the top menu where there are categories and sub-categories for you to explore. Another way is to use the product search box.

When you are browsing through the categories and sub-categories, the products listed will be sorted by popularity, with the average sale from high to low. You can modify your search by using the dropdown menu. Or, you can refine your search using filters and attributes.

From these products, you’ll choose something to promote on your blog and from there, making money online begins.

HOW TO MAKE MONEY AND HOW TO GET PAID ON CLICKBANK

Being an affiliate to earn money on Clickbank is pretty straightforward. To begin your affiliate marketing at Clickbank, you should:

1.Sign up and set up your affiliate account

Sign up from the home page of Clickbank. This will direct you to the page where you will fill up a form with your standard information like name, email, mailing address, contact details and so on. Registering is free so don’t worry that you’ll lose money and get scammed.

After you generate your first $600 or more, you’ll be asked for either your Social Security number if you’re doing business as an individual or your business tax ID number if payment is being made to your business.

Clickbank will mail you for your first two pay checks. You can opt to have payments submitted electronically to your bank account. Part of the reason why initial checks are mailed to you via regular postal service is so that Clickbank can verify that the address you provided is real.

2.Find a product to Promote

Find a list of potential products to promote. You can purchase those products and use them in your business for a month or two so you can come up with a convincing review.

But if you don’t want to purchase the product because it is a bit expensive or you think it has no use for you, then you can ask the vendor for a free copy or free trial version so you can review them.

While it is an important step to actually try the products, some bloggers skip this process and promote items they have no idea about. The downside here is they get lesser commissions because they convince lesser people. Also, affiliates sometimes make the mistake of promoting trashy products to their audience. This makes them lose their audience for good.

Here are some criteria to help you determine whether the product is good to promote or not:

  • Product’s gravity – this indicates the product’s sales and popularity.
  • Good reviews on the Internet – Search the product on search engine. Read reviews to determine if there are any complaints or if the customers and affiliates are generally happy with the product. Identify any complaints.
  • Clickbank statistics – When you look at the product, Clickbank offers key information about it and the results being generated. You can find out metrics, such as average commission amounts per sale, to see how profitable it may be to you and see how well the product ranks in terms of total sales, in its category, and so on.
  • Sales assistance offered by vendor – Some of the legit and best products on Clickbank come with extensive support and guidance from vendors to help affiliates succeed on promoting them.

3.Get your affiliate hoplink

For every product you pick, just click on the PROMOTE button. It will direct you to the next window where you enter your nickname and tracking ID. After doing so, Clickbank will generate a unique hoplink you’ll use on your contents. This is how Clickbank tracks that a sale came from your efforts.

4.The best part – Get paid

Clickbank tracks the sales and any commissions generated by your promotional efforts. You can log in and check your account and the results you produced. If you have any commissions, Clickbank typically issues payment every two weeks for affiliates.

Years ago, ClickBank only made payments with checks. Now, it also already does direct bank account deposit.  The minimum amount you need to have in your ClickBank account to be eligible for payment is $10. However, you can increase this minimum to something more substantial via your payment settings page.

As for how often you get paid, well, you can set this frequency to weekly or bi-weekly, bearing in mind that whatever threshold you set is met first.

For example, if your threshold is $250 bi-weekly, and you earn over this amount in each period, you will be paid on time. If you don’t earn enough, you won’t be paid until you reach the threshold, if that makes sense.

As I said, you can change the threshold manually in your payment settings.

This is how Clickbank works

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT CLICKBANK

  • Well-Established – This platform has been around since 1998 so you’ll know that it’s far from being a scam. Thorughout the years, it has grown to become one of the largest affiliate sites online with thousands of digital products to choose from in every niche imaginable.
  • Goldmine of Good Products to Review – There are plenty of trusted products on Clickbank. However, it will be a challenge to find them all. Always go back to the tips I mentioned above so you can determine the good ones.
  • Regular Direct Payments – Payments are always made on time once you reached your threshold that you can set.
  • Great Selling Point – Most reputable products on Clickbank are confident enough to offer a money back guarantee. For affiliates, this is a great selling point which can boost their affiliate conversions.
  • ClickBank University – there is a complete training provided for affiliate marketers on how they can succeed on Clickbank.

WHAT I DON’T LIKE ABOUT CLICKBANK

  • Dated looking website – For website with big network and that’s earning big, this one has a really old-fashioned look. Some affiliates can even make better websites.
  • Spammy products and low-class items – Like I mentioned there are spammy products on Clickbank. You will also find low-quality products and Clickbank doesn’t filter them. This is the problem with Clickbank. It lets everyone sell without determining the quality of the items being sold. This leads some affiliates who are careless to lose their audience for promoting faulty products.

CLICKBANK - THE UGLY TRUTH

There are Far too many valueless, poor-quality, and scammy looking products hosting on ClickBank. Again, the ones I’m referring to are the obvious Make Money Fast Systems and Get Rich Quick scams.

These low-end products often come with aggressive sales landing pages attached to them that look like they were launched before Clickbank.

Another thing is COMPETITION. Since many affiliates make Clickbank as their starting ground for making money online, a lot of them flock to the platform. This sometimes means, lesser chance to rank on top of the SERP, make more referrals and get higher commissions.

The competition is tough so you have to be very wise when choosing a product to promote. Choose one that is not too saturated yet but is making good sales. Find attractive offers and new, unique items that will solve the problem of most people in the present time. Study the market too and find out what they currently need.

Going with the fad is good but sometimes, you have to go against it to start your own trend. Besides, you will lose nothing here other than your time and effort. But that’s how business is. In affiliate marketing, your core investment is your time and effort.

CLICKBANK – IS IT A SCAM OR SHOULD YOU USE IT?

The answer here is NO it is NOT A SCAM. A lot of affiliates, including me, can prove that it works. Although I have products I promote outside Clickbank like Wealthy Affiliate, there are still some genuinely reputable products on ClickBank that I love to promote on my site.

ClickBank’s only problem is that its marketplace focuses on quantity rather than quality. This already tarnished the platform’s reputation before.

As a blogger or an affiliate marketer promoting ClickBank hosted products, this can negatively impact your own credibility and your blog or affiliate website’s reputation too. If you find something on ClickBank that sounds too good to be true, then it probably is, and gambling with the trust that you’ve built with your blog readers or affiliate customer base is not a good strategy.

Once Clickbank sees this loophole, it will probably become the most sought-to affiliate marketing platform ever.

If you can master the techniques of filtering the good products from the rubbish, I think you can make some good money with ClickBank.

If ClickBank sounds like as if it could be more of a headache than an opportunity, there are other plenty of reliable affiliate networks you can sign up to these days. One of them is Wealthy Affiliate and I discussed this on a previous blog.
